3.2.3. Space and Clearance Requirements
This section provides guidance for rack and layout sizing as well as important installation site checks.
3.2.3.1. Rack Layout and Sizing
The CN5000 Switch and Director Class Switch (DCS) are designed for installation in standard 19-inch equipment racks (not a telco cabinet).
Racks should conform to conventional standards. Use the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/Electronic Industries Association (EIA) standard ANSI/EIA-310-D-92 and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 297.
Racks should meet the following mechanical recommendations:
Four-post, 19" rack to facilitate easy maintenance.
Universal rail hole pattern identified in IEC Standard 297.
Mounting holes, without threads, flush with the rails to accommodate the chassis.
Ensure the equipment rack is grounded to earth ground. Use a rack grounding kit and a ground conductor that is carried back to earth or to another suitable building ground.
When installed, racks should provide enough room to work on the equipment. Clear the work site of any unnecessary materials. Make sure the equipment will have enough clearance for front and rear access.
3.2.3.2. Check the Installation Site
Ensure the following:
The cables can be accessed easily.
Water or moisture cannot enter the switch(es).
Cabinets should have their own switchable power distribution. Cabinets with dual power distribution units are recommended.
Use of anti-tip devices for cabinets is strongly recommended. This is especially true if a DCS switch is in the upper half of the cabinet when the lower half is empty.
Cabinet doors do not interfere with front-to-back airflow.
Note
Airflow for the DCS is in the Port-to-Fan direction only.
