Glossary
- FDB
Forwarding Database - This table is used by a Layer 2 device (switch/bridge) to store MAC addresses and ports so that data packets can be forwarded to the correct destination.
- FE
Fabric Executive - This is an Omni-Path component that provides out-of-band access to the Fabric Manager.
- FECN
Forward Explicit Congestion Notification - This is an alert sent to the receiver that congestion is occuring. The receiver can notify the sender to take action to avoid congestion.
- FM
Fabric Manager - This is an OPX Software component responsible for managing the fabric using management packets over a dedicated virtual lane (VL15).
- FRU
Field Replaceable Unit - This is a part or assembly that can be quickly and easily replaced by the user or technician without having to send the product or system to a repair facility.
- GID
Group Identifier - This is a unique identifier assigned to a group of users on a system, allowing them to access files and directories with common permissions.
- GUID
Globally Unique Identifier - This is a 128-bit text string generated when a unique reference number is needed to identify a component (for example, hardware, software, node) on a computer or network.
- HCA
Host Channel Adapter - This network fabric interconnect provides a computer with port connections to other devices.
- IANA
Internet Assigned Numbers Authority - This standards organization oversees global IP address allocation, autonomous system number allocation, root zone management in the DNS, and other Internet Protocol-related symbols and Internet numbers.
- IOC
Inversion of Control - This is the custom-written portions of a computer program that receive the flow of control from a generic framework.
- IPoIB
Internet Protocol over InfiniBand- This network interface implementation is IP datagrams over the InfiniBand.
- ISL
Inter-Switch Link - This is a Cisco Systems-proprietary protocol that maintains VLAN information in Ethernet frames as traffic flows between switches and routers, or switches and switches.
- LFT
Linear Forwarding Table - These tables define how a frame or packet will be forwarded out of a given switch or router in the network.
- LID
Local Identifier - This is a 24-bit address local to a subnet that is assigned to end nodes by the subnet manager, providing additional features related to routing algorithms.
- LMC
LID Mask Control - This method provides the assignment multiple local identifiers (LIDs) to a single physical port.
- LQI
Link Quality Indicator - This indicator provides a value measuring the quality of received data packets. It can identify secure transmissions and links with poor signal integrity.
- LTP
Link Transfer Packets
